Q.
I have naturally
thick and curly hair. I recently put a permanent color in it and I
would like to know if there is any product that I can use to get a
straight style when I want without using a relaxer. Please help.
A. There are some
great products out there to help you get the straight style you
are looking for. Since your hair is colored you need to be using a
shampoo for color treated hair - they are gentler, will replace
moisture, and help prevent color fading. A moisturizing
conditioner tames any fly-away hair and adds more moisture to the
hair making it easier to smooth out.
Try
Redken
All Soft Shampoo and
Redken All Soft Conditioner.
And on the
days you want to smooth your hair out, try using
Straight 5 Hair Straightening Balm. Apply to damp hair and
then blow-dry using a large round brush or a flat brush to pull
the hair straight.
Hope these
tips help!
Q.
I know Paul
Mitchell Shampoo Three is good for swimmers. Is it OK for color
treated hair as well?
A. The Paul Mitchell
Shampoo Three is a clarifying shampoo that removes any
build-up and impurities (chlorine). It is safe for all hair types
but I would not use it often if your hair is color-treated. It
might strip the color or dry out the hair.
Are you
looking for something specifically for swimmers to remove
chlorine? If so, Redken has a Swim Shape line that I highly
recommend. It not only removes chlorine, but also protects hair
from the effects of swimming and sun damage.
Q.
I was wondering if
I used a non-permanent color on my hair this week, and I am not
satisfied with the color, can I color it again this soon. I have
light brown hair and I am trying to lighten it to more of a blonde
color for the summer. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
A. Any hair color that
is temporary usually does not contain ingredients to make the hair
lighter. It will only deposit (add color) and that is why it fades
a little each time you shampoo. Since you want to be lighter than
your natural color, I would not recommend a non-permanent color.
Maybe try checking with a few of your local salons about having a
few highlights added to brighten your hair color for the summer.
Many salons offer a partial highlighting service (around you face
or just on top) priced according to how much is done. It would
have a more natural look growing out after the summer.
Q.
I have just started
using the Biolage Hydrating shampoo.
The
conditioner I've been using is the Biolage Detangling solution.
This seems to be making my hair - which is short - fly away. It
often takes two to three days to settle down.
Should
I be using another conditioner i.e. Conditioning Balm?
A. The Detangling Solution is a light, everyday
conditioner and, especially if chemically treated, your hair would
probably benefit from a deep moisturizer. Try using Hydro
Active Hair Masque or the Conditioning
Balm once or twice weekly, still using the Detangling
Solution the times you shampoo in between. Also, check out the
styling products Matrix has to offer. The Hydro
Foaming and Defining
Elixir are both really nice for giving body and gentle hold to
keep hair in place once it is styled.
Q.
My hair is
medium/dark brown. In the summer it gets blonde highlights. I
would like my hair to be darker, black to almost black, and I
would not like to dye my hair. Is there any kind of shampoo I
could use that would darken my hair? I also would not like to use
dyes that wash out.
A.
You
could try using a color depositing shampoo like Redken
Shades
EQ Shampoo - Espresso. It is a gentle, non-permanent way to
add color and depth to the hair without getting an out growth.
With each shampoo, color molecules are deposited into the hair, so
the more often you use it, the more you will notice a difference
in your hair color. Alternate with Redken's
Redken's
Color Extend Shampoo and use the
Color
Extend to help maintain the color.
Q.
My hair is fine,
curly, short and colored. I'm looking for something to take the
frizz out. My hair looks perfect before I leave for work and as
soon I open the door and the humidity hits my hair it turns into a
frizz ball. I need to not have frizz. I was thinking of trying
sleek.look.
A.
The
sleek.look products are a great choice for your hair type and the
smoother (frizz-free) look you desire! Another product that I
recommend is Sebastian Laminates Concentrated Gel. It really helps
to smooth the hair out while giving incredible shine, but use
sparingly (pea-sized amount), a little goes a long way.

Q.
My hair is long and
colored. It is also curly/wavy but i iron it. I've been ironing
for a long time and dying it black (its naturally dark blonde).
Last week I bleached it and then dyed it red. I need a treatment
to make it healthier & stronger, since it's horrible now. What
are the best products for that?
A.
A
great product for your hair is
Sebastian
Mohair Shampoo and
Suedeluxe
Reconstructor. You hair needs a lot of moisturizing and T.L.C. right
now. Try eliminating any extra added stress on it for a while (maybe you
could straighten it by blow-drying instead of ironing it - or, if
you wash and
straighten it everyday, try doing it every other
day,
or wear it curly sometimes.....)
Follow up with
Potion
#9 to continue strengthening and protecting your hair throughout the
day. This product is really nice and it works good to remove tangles too!
Q.
I
am looking for a product that will either enhance my naturally
blonde highlights or put blonde highlights in my hair.
A.
Take
a look at our line of Redken Shades EQ Color Enhancing Shampoos. Depending
on the type of blonde you are, you may want to try either:
Shades
EQ Shampoo - Papaya for sunny warm blonde tones, or
Shades
EQ Shampoo - Vanilla Creme for soft, golden tones. And remember to
alternate with
Redken's
Color Extend Shampoo.
Q.
My hair is
really dry and brittle. I would like some recommendations that would solve
that problem.
A.
Hair that is coarse
usually has a more dry/brittle texture, but you can help tame it
by using products that are moisturizing. They are safe for
color-treated hair, too!
Q.
I'm looking for
styling products. What could I use on my hair? It is fine, straight, short,
and colored - and I want a fuller style.
To build body in
your hair try these volumizing products. Because they are lightweight, they
work great in fine textured hair and are gentle and safe for
colored/chemically treated hair. When blow-drying, gently dry hair, moving it
around from side to side, concentrating on the hair closest to your scalp.
Once scalp hair is dry, finish drying the mid-strands and ends using a round
brush to add fullness.
